Alaskan Cruise 2018 - Day 10

Day 10 Friday - June 1st, 2018

Tracy Arm Fjord

Named after Civil War general Benjamin Franklin Tracy, this narrow fjord is located approximately 50 miles southeast of Juneau. Breathtaking Tracy Arm extends over 30 miles long, with nearly a quarter of its area covered in ice. In fact, it encompasses some of Alaska's largest glaciers, including the twin Sawyer glaciers, which often expel enormous chunks of ice into the waters below in a magnificent process known as calving. During the summer when Princess ships visit, icebergs float along the surface of the glistening water in an array of sizes, from just a few inches up to three stories wide.

Protected within the Tongass National Forest, Tracy Arm Fjord is a haven for wildlife. Black and brown bears, deer, wolves, harbor seals, mountain goats and a variety of seabirds have been spotted in the area.

As you glide through the pristine fjord, you'll first pass by a lush forest where a number of beautiful waterfalls cascade down, and then you'll be treated to views of snow capped mountains and blue-tinged glaciers more spectacular than you could ever imagine.

Between Katie & myself, we took over 400 photos.  Shelly & I  were able to order a special in room breakfast package to enjoy while we sailed thru the fjord.

Here are a few of the great views of the fjord:

We enjoyed another exceptional lunch in the main dining room. I was excited to see they were serving one of my favorite dishes on this day. It is actually an appetizer, so I ordered several plates to create an entree sized serving of the wings.
Bacardi & Coke Marinated Spicy Chicken Wings
ginger, soy, hoisin glaze

Four Flavors in Oriental Broth
roasted duckling, shrimp, pork, shiitake mushrooms

Grilled Chicken Salad
red leaf and bibb lettuce, caramelized pecans, honey-mustard dressing

Honey-Garlic Pork Spareribs
French fries, green salad

Chocolate Pecan Pie
a la mode

So even after eating all that, I was still hungry. (Imagine that, ol' HungryHeath was still hungry 😋) Naturally I did what any growing boy would do in this situation, I ordered a pizza from room service.
Pepperoni pan pizza

My regular readers know what is probably coming next... If you guessed that we laid down for a nap, you would be correct.

Our comfy bed

After our well deserved slumber. we dressed for dinner in the main dining room.
Bacon Wrapped Shrimp
I ordered these as a special item. They were supposed to be served with the burger.

Pasta e Fagioli
red bean & pasta soup, ham hocks, parsley
My wife & I both love spicy foods. This spicy pasta is one of our favorite dishes aboard Princess Cruises. Shelly ordered her's as is.
Arrabbiata sauce over Penne Pasta

I chose to add grilled chicken to mine.
Arrabbiata sauce over Penne Pasta + Grilled Chicken

Cassata alla Sicilina
ice cream trilogy, candied fruits

Traditional New York Cheesecake
macerated strawberries

Since we did not disembark from the ship, this was technically a sea day. I enjoy these due to the opportunity to just rest & relax.
Stay tuned, as next week, I'll tell y'all about the Captain's Farewell Dinner that includes some candid photos of our wonderful table mates.
