2018 Road Trip - Day 07

Monday 09.10.18 - Still Rockin' in Cleveland, Ohio

Today we slept in late & left the house in search of food. On our way out of the neighborhood, we stopped at this house to take photos of Lake Erie. It was vacant, with a "for sale" sign in the front yard, so we just borrowed the driveway for a few minutes.

I woke up craving Mexican food. When we are at home, we eat Mexican or Tex-Mex at least twice a week, sometimes more. Well it had been quite a while since I had my fix, so we decided to try this place called Fiesta Jalapeños Mexican Grill. It was decent, filled my craving & my belly. Here's some pics, followed by our thoughts on the entire meal...
Entrance
Chips & Salsa

Bottled salsa on each table

Chicken Wings (6)
Fried to perfection, served with chimichurri sauce and jalapeño creamy dipping sauce.

Chile con Queso
Homemade cheese dip made with queso blanco, jalapeño peppers and our secret ingredients.

Al Pastor Torta
A grilled sandwich filled with your choice of chicken, steak or Al Pastor, topped with mayonnaise, lettuce, avocados and tomatoes.

Tortilla Soup
Classic Mexican soup with chicken, rice and spicy chipotle sauce. Topped with tortilla strips and sour cream.

Review:

  • Chicken Wings - The best part was the jalapeño creamy dipping sauce, which you have to ask for. We never received the chimichurri sauce. Both sauces are clearly listed on the menu, so we found it strange that we had to request them.
  • Chile con Queso - Oddly, they blend everything into the queso.  A bit too thin.
  • Al Pastor Torta - This was lacking on the meat, but otherwise a decent sandwich.
  • Tortilla Soup - Loaded with lots of chicken, served hot with big chunks of tortillas.  Great for a rainy day, could be spicier with jalapenos as a garnish.

After lunch we made way over to The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! I was so excited, that I ended up taking over 100 photos. I had a blast looking at all the awesome memorabilia. Here's a few sample pics...

After walking around the HOF for several hours, we started to get hungry again. We had a dinner reservation but, we had an hour to kill before that. We decided to see if we could get in early. We arrived at Lola - A Michael Symon Restaurant, & were seated instantly with no issue. Our waitress, Hannah was AMAZING! She took wonderful care of us. There was so much good food here. It was hard to narrow down what we wanted, so of course, we over ordered. We each started off with a tasty cocktail, while we munched on the sourdough bread & looked over the menu.

Review:
  • Bone marrow - Yum! Fatty tender marrow made even more delectable with the accompaniments.
  • Heirloom tomatoes - all different sizes and colors.  I sprinkled with salt to enhance the tomatoes.  The burrata was so creamy.
  • Beef Cheek Pierogi -  Tender with creamy filling.  The gravy added savory beefy notes.
  • Beef Hanger Steak w/ pickle sauce, chiles, pork fat fried Lola fries.  The fries are out of this world good, crispy matchstick with seasoning.  The steak was good. A lot of food.
  • Smoked Pork Chop w/ chiles, polenta, BBQ onions - The owner's favorite food is pork, how could I not order this? The pork chop was expertly cooked. I'm not usually a fan of polenta, but this was great.
  • Ice Cream - All packed a fruity flavor, that tasted fresh.
  • Complementary Cupcakes - moist & delicious. Happy Anniversary!!!

I made a mistake in my Day 6 post. We did not actually buy the autographed cook book until the end of this meal.

That's it for today. Tomorrow I'll fill you in on our adventures in Charleston, West Virginia
