I woke way too early, took a shower & began working on the blog. Around 8am, I went up to the breakfast buffet, where I got an omelette, cheddar cheese, sliced ham, & an English muffin.

12pm Lunch from the “BBQ” grill

I had a jumbo hot dog & fries - I like how they split the dog and grill both sides.  Pro-tip: If you like crispy fries ask them to twice fry or extra crispy.

Shelly had a cheeseburger & fries - what I was craving a juicy meaty burger.

Here in the United States, we have a drink that we call lemonade. It's made with water, lemon juice & sugar. It's a nice refreshing drink, especially on a hot summer day. I heard that in New Zealand & Australia, that they refer to Sprite or any other lemon lime sodas as lemonade.
So when we booked this cruise, I just knew I had to test this out. Sure enough, it's true!

We ordered three drinks:
“Lemonade” AKA Sprite - LOL this is so weird to me.
Hibiscus soda - good a lil sour acidity
Golden Lager - afterwards, our waiter told us that this was his least favorite brew. I thought it was a good beer.
Golden Lager - A golden malty lager with mellow hop characters and cashew nut smoothness.
Hibiscus soda from Six Barrel Soda Co. - Our hibiscus is a floral plummy original number. We use organic hibiscus flowers for a deep red colour and a rich floral and stone fruit flavour. Hibiscus is a popular flavour for drinks in the Caribbean and Central America. Try it with a wedge of lime, with sparkling wine or in tequila or rum drinks.

Hot Wings - Loved em, our waitress said that she told the kitchen to make them extra spicy. 1-10, these were about a 6.5

Brisket tacos - these were pretty good. Loved the flavors, but I think a thicker tortilla would keep them from becoming soggy.   The brisket had a good smokey taste and melted in your mouth. The jalapenos, sour cream, and guac blended well.
SMOKED BRISKET TACOS
Caramelized onions, black beans, chipotle, jalapeno, sour cream, avocado

Pork belly - this may have been my favorite dish. Super tender pork, with a thin crispy exterior.  The corn salsa went well with the fatty pork.
CRISPY SKIN PORK BELLY
served with jalapeno, corn and tomato salsa and smoked sour cream

Lamb sausage - tiny sausage that packed a big flavor. I liked the texture. Sometimes you get a sausage that’s too smooth, almost like a pate on the inside. This was perfect.
LAMB SAUSAGE
special sausage of the day

½ dozen raw oysters - big juicy oysters. Clean and meaty in beautiful half shells. The thin wafer crackers were a nice accompaniment.
½ DOZEN RAW OYSTERS
Natural - Freshly Opened Oysters

Purple slaw - the lemon mayo made for a grade salad. This worked wonderfully with all the rich heavy meats.
PURPLE SLAW
lemon mayo

Cornbread - they grilled this crazy good skillet cornbread. This was terrific!
SKILLET BAKED JALAPENO CORN BREAD
burnt

After this stellar meal, we returned to the ship. We needed to get to sleep, because we have a full day exploring Auckland tomorrow.
