2019 Autumn Road Trip - Day 12

Tuesday 10.08.19 - Traverse City, Michigan
My wife, Shelly is a FIEND for all things lavender. So our first stop today naturally was a local farm so she could stock up on a few of her favorite items.

At Harbor View Nursery & Lavender Farm, she purchased: lip balm, bath milk, soap, herbs de Provence, & salt.

Our next stop was lunch at Harrington’s By the Bay

We began our meal with two terrific appetizers. The first one was a plate containing small beef asparagus rolls. These were a tasty bite that I can see us replicating at home.

Beef Tenderloin | Béarnaise Sauce

The second plate was a simple but scrumptious bacon wrapped shrimp. I loved them so much, that I thought about ordering a couple of more servings.

The main reason we picked this place was because we saw that they offered a few low carb lunch option.

I chose the blackened chicken w/ zucchini, squash & onion - 2 nice size breasts well blackened and juicy.  This meat was the star.

Shelly selected the blackened salmon w/ zucchini, squash & onion. The salmon was good, but served with the sweet sauce so we had to wait for them to clean it off.

After lunch, we spent some time at Sleeping Bear Dunes Overlook followed by Pierce Stocking Scenic DriveAlong the way, I took nearly forty photos.

When we were planning this trip, Cherry Republic sounded like a fun stop. What happened though, this was a waste of time because of our dietary restrictions.  Everything they sold, seemed to contain sugar. I guess we should have done some better research.

During our travels, we like to visit antique shops. We have found that these are a great way to see interesting things & find license plates. The plates are hung on our back porch to remind us of all the places we have visited.

A few of the places we checked out were:
Northern Boater
Here we m
et Dory the dog (I deleted his pic by mistake) & looked at the owner's art work. She told us how her husband runs the nautical antique store & she sells her paintings.

Right next door, was Buntings Cedar Market IncWhen we parked, I smelled BBQ. Me being HungryHeath, this excited me, but all I found was prepacked sausage that contained ingredients that we are trying to avoid. I asked to borrow their bathroom & the clerk handed me the best key chain ever.

We then drove over to Wilson Antiques, but did not spend much time there because this creepy kid almost made us want to leave. We arrived an hour before they closed & he was rushing everyone out so they could lock up.

even the elevator was an antique

We did buy a Wyoming shot glass.

As the day wore on, it was becoming time for dinner. We had 7pm reservations at the Boathouse Restaurant.

When were seated, I was gifted a small box of chocolates as a celebration of my birthday. It was a sweet sentiment. I enjoyed only one small piece & left the box there so that I would not be tempted by them later.

We ordered an appetizer that we never had before, escabeche. This was some really fresh, tender mussels & octopus.

chilled, cauliflower, fennel, coriander, saffron, chilies, smoked paprika

Next, we both had the lovely signature salad. Shelly especially loved the pine nuts. She says it made for a great addition to the salad.
BOATHOUSE SALAD
organic field greens, fresh mozzarella, tomato, pine nuts, lemon basil vinaigrette

Our entrees were another first. We both chose the Lake Michigan Whitefish. We thought it was similar to catfish, as it too was white, flaky, & juicy.
LAKE MICHIGAN WHITEFISH
crab topped, asparagus, green beans, lemon caper beurre blanc

A side dish of mushrooms sounded good, so we got those too. No disappointment here, as these were awesome!
FOREST MUSHROOMS
sherry, tamari

We finished dinner & rushed back to the hotel. We are both super excited because tomorrow we are going to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada!
