2019 Autumn Road Trip - Day 13
Day 13 - Wednesday 10.09.19 - Next Stop Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada
I have been looking forward to having a carb filled pizza for a while now. I chose the personal combo meal of a small pizza with a side salad.
The "individual" salad arrived first & it was HUGE!
The salad was so big that we both were able to get two servings out of it.
Shelly was not impressed with my idea of doing a carb up so she being a stickler ordered a bacon cheddar burger minus bun, with a side of steamed broccoli. She says, "It was a good burger, but needed more fat though. The broccoli was simply steamed with no seasoning. I'm glad I had my Redmond's salt."
This has been a bucket list item for me for as long as I can remember. I am glad that I can finally check them off the list, but I am in no way in a hurry to come back. I actually prefer a thin crust New York or Neapolitan style pizza more than this thicker crust stuff. It's not that it tasted bad, it just was not as earth shattering as all the hype I have always heard.
Next it was time to drive another four hours to our dinner reservations at Prime Steakhouse Niagara Falls (located inside the Crowne Plaza Niagara Falls)
The surf portion:
This dish was labeled as spicy, but I have noticed that most of the time, these claims are misleading. That is not to say that it was not tasty. I enjoyed it enough that I contemplated ordering a second plate. The bacon was just crisp enough & thankfully the shrimp was not over cooked.
On to the sides...
I used to think that I did not like cauliflower, but the manner in which this was prepared was terrific! The way it was roasted with pecorino, olive oil & tomato was brilliant.
The second side dish was a large plate of scrumptious steamed asparagus sprinkled with cheese and what seemed to be currants.
After that wonderful dinner, we drove over to the Hilton Niagara Falls/Fallsview Hotel & Suites. We had a great room on the 49th floor with an outstanding view of the falls.
After spending a little time soaking in the view, we retired to bed eager for our Journey Behind the Falls tomorrow.
We quickly packed up & jumped into the car. I was excited to make the four hour drive to Buddy’s Pizza, the originator of Detroit-style pizza.

Our waitress Shawna was awesome! She, as well as the whole staff, easily worked with our dietary restrictions to make our dining experience such a wonderful event. While we waited on our food to arrive, I was able to snap a few photos of the falls & surrounding area.
We decided to do our own surf & turf by each ordering our own steak, along with sharing the shrimp appetizer & a couple of side dishes.

The turf portion:
My 22 oz porterhouse was one of the best steak we’ve had so far. So tender and succulent. Medium rare is my favorite way to eat steak & they nailed this one!
