Day 15 - Friday 10.11.19 - Bound for Buffalo, New York
 |
One last pic of the falls as we leave |
Today I was able to check off another bucket list food item at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York. The reason for this visit is because this is the place where the "buffalo wing" was invented.
We began our lunch by sharing an impressive antipasto salad. We discarded the crackers along with the dressing. We wanted to use our own FBomb oil instead.

Antipasto Salad
marinated eggplant, mushrooms, salami, ham, provolone, tomatoes, mixed greens |
Our wonderful waitress, Shannon, informed us that the original wing flavor was "medium", so we ordered a ten piece of those. Two other flavors, suicidal & spicy garlic parmesan wings, sounded good so we got those as well.
 |
Thirty Wings in three flavors - Medium, Spicy Garlic Parmesan & Suicidal |
 |
Medium Wings - original flavor (rather mild) |
 |
Suicidal Wings - great heat but not overly spicy |
 |
Spicy Garlic Parmesan Wings - perfect balance of heat & full flavor |
While we did enjoy all three flavors, we didn't think the wings were any better than other places like Hooters, BW3 or the ones we have cooked ourselves at home. The only negative thing I can say is that they use cooking oils that we find to be inflammatory for us. We felt a little icky later that evening.
We next drove to Trader Joe's to restock on bottled water. While I was able to get some liquid stevia & 100% dark chocolate, there was no bottled water to be found.
We still needed that bottled water so we set off for Aldi.
Here we also picked up some SAVORITZ jalapeno parmesan crisps & a sparkling water.
We stayed at the gorgeous Reikart House, Buffalo, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel for two nights. The desk was cute, but not very user friendly for working on laptop.
We hung out for awhile before leaving for our 6pm reservation at Giancarlo’s Sicilian Steakhouse. The reviews sounded terrific & we were excited for a nice steak after having chicken wings for lunch.
We decided to create another turf & turf by combining the daily special steak with a side of dry aged bacon. Our server, Johnathon was great with helping us swap items to fit our needs. The food arrived & looked amazing, but that's when the joy ended. The steak was served already sliced and it was barely room temp, & no real butter available. I imagined the bacon would be nice thick cut pieces, but just regular slices of bacon like you find in a diner.

Daily special: BISTECCA ALLA FIORENTINA - 48 oz Porterhouse |
 |
Dry Aged Bacon |
For our sides we chose roasted asparagus and wild mushrooms. It was a huge plate full of asparagus, the lemon added some delightful acidity. The wild mushrooms were really tasty, it was an assortment of different types of mushrooms lightly seasoned and roasted, making some crunchy and others more meaty.

It was a good meal, that should have & could have been a great meal. Oh well, it's part of traveling. They all can't be winners. Tomorrow we are hanging out all day in Buffalo.
